Someone asked so i answered

I decided to make an interview with you, because you have such a distinctive style as an illustrator and graphic designer.
1. What do you have to say about the nature of your art?
I like strange and weird things and strongly defying the notion that something that does not exist cannot be drawn. This is what drives me besides the everlasting afford never to repeat myself.
2. In general, what is your opinion about graphic design and designers in Slovenia?
We have some solid studios but they are hard to find. Advertising is too strong around here and it spoils the good design and designers. But I do see some good changes and clients realizing design should be included and considered from the beginning. This is the only way good brands are created.
3. You are having your own design studio called VBG. Is it challenging to compete with other agencies, and how well they compete against you :) ? After all, graphic design is a challenge for making the best.
I try not to compete. I'm lucky so far most of clients come to me not vice versa. In the last 10 years or so I learned to be multidisciplinary so I can create concepts and design from products to websites. This is why everything I design can be applied to all media. I think this is my strongest point besides knowing I can always do better.
I also have some of other brands like Subtotal – art and exhibitions, Noodl – design toy , and soon an online t-shirt shop,... They are all there for a purpose and helping me evolve.
4. You work with Dj Umek's label 1605, making art for the releases, and recently designed Umek's latest album "Responding To Dynamic". Was it exciting to work on such a project that would go world wide? How does this all started?
I think it’s three years now since I started to work for #Umek. We have a great respect for one another. Meaning we believe in what we do so it’s a bit easier to create for him. He always wanted his own label and we came up with the name and the whole design concept for it. I suggested this strange art approach including my own personal art. Now the creatures live on all #1605 releases. I've made a special afford for the album and brought the art to even higher level. And yes it is fun to do work for international projects as you know from the start more people will see your work.
5. What do you do in your free time when you are not doing what you do at your best - designing?
Turning off my computer no really I try to be disciplined enough to only work in my studio. I don't have a computer at home. Afternoons are for my family. I like to draw and paint, see some exhibitions, having a beer or do some sports. Whatever helps to clear my mind off work. I learned the hard way it is important to be off work and having some of that #goodlife.
6. And for the end, what do you have to say to uprising graphic design artists?
Try not to be a freelancer. It will be enough time for that later. Working in a studio will give you discipline and a chance to learn. In the end you need to evolve all the time. Multidisciplinary designers have a better understanding of design and medium they work for. You need to love what you do if this is not the case than don't do it.
